Control

Control

2008

Modified religious figures, wood, acrylic paint, ribbon, adhesive

Pope snake: 91 cm long

Control is also made from religious figures, one of which has been cut and reassembled as a snake. The serpentine Pope bows his head with a crucifix staff in hand, in front of another crucified Jesus. The relationship between the two crucified Jesuses draws attention to the difference between an historic event (the Crucifixion) and the contemporary use of its representation as a means of influence and social control.
