The Wave, the Particle, the Light is a digital animation that was designed to be projected in the apse of Ex Teresa Arte Actual in Mexico City. The video, inspired by the drawing Vitruvian Man by Leonardo da Vinci, shows a naked Jesus suspended in the air in the pose of the Crucifixion. The animation begins with Jesus floating as he faces the audience, after which he makes three slow rotations on three distinct axis. The fourth spin is on all three axis at the same time, speeding up in velocity until Jesus begins to emit a brilliant light. After sustaining this high-speed, light-emitting spin, Jesus begins to slow down until he reaches his original floating position.
The title of the animation refers to both the verse from John 14:6 ("I am the way and the truth and the life") and the fact that light exhibits qualities of both waves and particles at the same time. The projection refers to this wave-particle duality as a means of exploring Jesus as a man and a god at the same time. The animation is accompanied by the music of Alessandro Morreschi, the last castrato to sing in the Vatican and the only (unnatural) castrato to have been recorded singing (1902-04).
