Learning to Care / Learning Not to Care
2 channel video installation (25.38 min.)

Learning to Care / Learning Not to Care is a synchronized, two-channel video installation that places the audience between a gunman and his target. The videos, which are projected on opposite walls, document a hunter practicing his aim by shooting the acupuncture points of a human-silhouette, escalating from a .22 rifle, to a high-power rifle, and finally to a shotgun. The medicinal and military elements counterpoint traditional healing with desensitization, and allude to the use and threat of violence in both ‘caring for’ and controlling society.
