Project 5 - Contextual Drawings
Based on Memoirs of the Blind by Jacques Derrida, we will discuss themes from the history of art, literature and philosophy where blind people (and contradictions of vision) play an important role. We will also discuss ideas of “blind love” and “blind justice” and explore the mythical, paradoxical role of the blind as seer. We will discuss materials and methods for exploring and expressing these subjects following the strategies used by conceptual artists, and empower the students to reclaim “their” historical and metaphorical themes.
In Mexico City, students created drawings of the Bible story "Jesus Heals the Blind," based on readings of the story and descriptions of various paintings of the subject throughout history.
