Project 3 - 4'33" (Mariachi Version)
Students will experience an in-class performance of John Cage’s 4’33” (1954). The performance will be executed by musicians typical to the country in which the workshop is taking place, i.e. in Mexico with a mariachi band. The performance will will provide students with a further understanding of “anti-art” while highlighting the importance of the audience/spectator in the “making” of an artwork.
In Mexico City, the highly developed auditory abilities of the students enabled a more advanced study and understanding of the "silence" associated with 4'33".
